The story

Carnival is a global celebration rooting in the masquerades of the French in the 1800s. However, we decided to take a different route and shed light on the history of carnival from the perspective of the carribean culture. Carnival served as a festival of freedom and unity in the carribean, but more importantly expression. The story was broken down into three chapters of carnvial: J'ouvert, Mas Day, and Fete Night.

My contribution were to the chapters Mas Day and J'ouvert. The goal was to transform the adidas stan smith into a sneaker for the male reveller and design a hoodie for the J'ouvert participant.
The material & color story

Every color and material was selected with intention. The synthetic snake skin represented the rebirthing that happened after washing the tar and paint from J'ouvert to Mas Day. The red thread symbolized the blood that connects us all, and gold leather, well is just a must have color in carnival. All of which I strategically placed onto the adidas stan smith to express the traditions and root meaning of carnival.

The color palette largely came into play when coloring the graphics for the sneakers and apparel.
